What's for Dinner #4 - Is it tasty? Is it crunchable?

Apparently it is Hobbit marathon night and I've been requested to make some Hobbit/LotR themed food.

Not a problem, really, except that my son is a pretty picky eater, so I have to make something he would actually eat.

I am going with hand held meat pies (spicy chicken and (separately) Italian sausage with peppers and onions), cheese, bacon, some roasted veggies (need to figure out exactly how I am doing those as I want them on skewers, as in "travel" food)

eta: skip the veggies :P but I did cut up some potatoes, added a little of the spicy chicken seasoning to them. I cooked them same time as the bacon (thick cut, peppered). when they were about 3/4 done, I poured the bacon grease over them and they got all crispy...so we had crispy, spicy, bacon potatoes. I served them in a wooden bowl...broke the bacon in half and stood it up all around the edges and filled the middle with the taters. put it all on a big platter with the the meat pies and it was so lovely (but the batteries in my camera are dead :( )

Picked up a copy of fine Cooking magazine, something I haven't done in a while (food porn...) and made a browned-butter pecan banana three layer cake with ganache for icing. Have died and gone to heaven. Also made from the same issue Wild rice with roasted balsamic glazed grapes and maple syrup glazed pecans. A tablespoon of each of the syrups. Turned out amazingly delicious!

There are at least half a dozen dishes I want to try from the issue, including polenta with greek yogurt, lemon zest and chopped dill, cauliflower, pear and fennel soup, miso braised duck legs and bacon wrapped turkey roulade. :)

Lunch: Mixed fresh vegetable sandwich on warm pita, containing shredded carrot, sliced celery, red bell pepper sticks, and chopped tomatoes, dressed with a coconut tahini sauce. Greek yogurt on the side.

I meant to include onion, but forgot. This will be lunch all week.

I wish I had bought raspberries. Would have looked a treat on top of the yogurt.

Oh my. All of those sound delicious. Must make more soups this winter. Great for bringing to work the next day.

Old school here tonight. Tbone steak, bearnaise, green salad and duck fat chips (cheating by buying the chips and just having to hear them).

My s/o and I made a feast Saturday night. :) Grilled ribeyes with a barbecue bourbon marinade, mac & cheese, homemade cornbread, grilled corn on the cob, and green beans with crumbled bacon and caramelized onions. It was delicious, but a really heavy meal. I pretty much passed out immediately after eating. :p
