I'm nearing the end now, but man this show starts moving like a freight train once Antwon Mitchell kills a certain character.

Also, Forest Whitaker's performance on this show is GOAT.

Which character?

Spoiler

The little girl that snitched on Antwon and who he murders with Shane and sidekick's (can't remember the dude's name) guns? Still remember watching that scene for the first time.

Leo picks WAY better projects for himself though. You won’t catch Leo doing shit like Downsizing, The Great Wall, Elysium, Stuck on You, etc.

woah woah woah... Stuck on You was probably the last great Farelly brothers movie.

(I also don't think Elysium is as bad as people make it out to be. Same with Chappie.)

I watched The Death of Stalin, which at times was very grim and at times very funny, often in the same scene. I think it did manage to capture some of the paranoia of the times. It's full of horrible characters, but no matter what any of the rest of them do Simon Russell Beale's Beria stands out. Jason Isaacs seemed to be having fun swaggering around as Marshal Zhukov, I suppose anyone who had defeated Hitler probably would bring it up in every single conversation.

I've been deep into a patient's appointment, really getting to the root cause of their violent cerebral dislocations, and all I can think about is Beria running down the gravel road screaming "Svetlana!"

Both Tin Star S2 and Secret City S2 exceeded expectation.... neither will make my top 10, but we enjoyed them both.... Hanna (starting Fri) is at the head of the que... we'll eventually get around to the OA, since most of the people in that thread thought S2 was good.... I trust this board...

...Threw The Act (Hulu) into the weekly rotation... It's really, really uncomfortable to watch....  Patricia Arquette is being typecast as "the pathologically lying trainwreck".... she's basically the same character as she was in Escape from Dannemora.... which is to say "So painfully awful she's impossible to look away from"... Joey King is an amazing young actor...

Yeah the OA season 2 is fantastic. I'm one episode from finishing it.

De Niro has been cashing in on awful crap for three decades. Doesn’t change the fact he’s one of the ten best American actors ever.

I’d say more like two decades. He was still doing primarily good-great movies in the 90’s (Goodfellas, Cape Fear, A Bronx Tale, Casino, Heat, Jackie Brown, Ronin, etc).

Without giving away any spoilers, does it keep on down the path it was going at the end of S1? I thought it got a little weird, for me anyway.

Spoiler

The whole dancing saving someone thing or whatever it did to stop the shooting. IDK it just turned me off.

Well, it is definitely the weirdest show I've seen since Twin Peaks, and I say that as a compliment. This season is different though and is much more polished. The best thing  is they resolve mysteries that they present on a regular basis. They do not pull a Lost on you, quite the opposite.

While there is some more about the movements, the plot is not really focused on that anymore. They have moved beyond it.

After one more episode of HBO's The Case Against Adnand Sayed I'm sort of baffled.  I don't get it.  I wonder if it's made for people that have seen Serial and that's why I don't get it, but I swear that it's an utterly incoherent documentary.  I have no idea what's going on or what it's about.  I mean, not literally, but it's really not clear what's up with the case just from watching this.  Another fairly disappointing HBO doc after the disappointing Elizabeth Holmes doc.

I don’t know, I listened to Serial and tapped out after like an episode and a half with this. I just didn’t feel like going down the same road again really. :dunno:

You’re right. It seems to have all gone downhill after Meet the Parents in 2000.

There's something particularly terrifying about an enthusiastic greeting from Beria.

I'm kind of dying to re-watch this after having just seen it once in the theater.  When it came out it sounded so right up my alley but then in a fairly full theater it seemed like the laughs were fairly minimal, and I wondered if it wasn't that funny or if I was a bit too in my cups or possibly both.  But it was clear to me that it was going for darker, subtler humor, and I am hopeful I'll appreciate it more on the next try.

It is a very dark humour, so I think it's not going to work for everyone.

With today's news of the upcoming Tory leadership contest to replace Theresa May, I'm struggling to avoid trying to find parallels between that and the struggle for succession in the film. The last one was certainly just as farcical - given Armando Ianucci's background in British political satire the similarity may not be entirely coincidental.

Watched a couple of the newest episodes of Arrested Development, don’t think I’ve laughed once. Not sure if I’ll finish it.

Didn't know they were out.  Great promotion, Netflix.

Yep, I can now see why they haven't been promoting it.  Hot garbage.

The tv version of What We Do in the Shadows premiered tonight. Pretty funny. I absolutely love the movie, so I have high hopes for this. Not sure how much involvement Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement had after the pilot, but it’s off to a good start.

I watched the first episode of The OA. I really have no idea what to make of it. It’s certainly an interesting concept, but I think I need to rewatch the episode as I was really tired at the time and it’s clearly a show you need to focus on while watching.
