Maybe NU, their support has shown some moral flexibility. But signing Greenwood on would kinda undermine the point of sport washing for City and Newcastle (and PSG).

That's a leap. Since no fans have complained about huge injections of cash, it can be assumed no fans would.  If we are saying that is the benchmark for welcoming rapists then it follows that no fans would give a shit.

Newcastle fans are no more or less flexible on moral issues than any other fan base, just better looking.

Well, it was Clyde. Not exactly a big club. And he managed to get there before the #MeToo movement kicked off in the fall of 2017.

Greenwood being of a much higher profile than Goodwillie should have much more problems finding a team capable and willing to pay him good money and take the media backlash. Maybe NU, their support has shown some moral flexibility. But signing Greenwood on would kinda undermine the point of sport washing for City and Newcastle (and PSG).

The implied argument that in football, it's when the big money is in play that morality really kicks in, is somewhat flawed IMO.

It was actually intended as a throw away line, however that leaves a few questions regarding women and Newcastle's much celebrated welcoming of their new owners (or paymasters?), and the arbitraryness of moral lines. I mean apparently some things are ok, likesay...

...stoning unfaithful women

...jailing disobedient women

However signing alleged rapist is crossing a line. Just saying...

Egypt through to the final. They're quite solid defensively, but offer nothing going forward, so it's hard to imagine them beating Senegal in the final.

The softarse BBC commentators spent the match wanking off Onana, so of course he timidly dived out of the way of everything during the penalty shootout.

I dunno. But I don't think big sponsors would appreciate being associated with Greenwood on a big stage. Esp. with the predictable social media back lash and boycott campaigns. Fans will hopefully react in similar fashion like their counterparts at Raith Rovers (why do I always want to write Range Rovers?). RR have learnt the hard way it's not worth it.

So United's forwards and midfielders couldn't really hit a barn wall let alone a goal .. what they needed was to put on a midfielder with an eye for goal - Donny van de Beek.

Wonder why they didn't.

Them squandering chances was one thing. That Boro goal not being called off over a handball is another. That never should have stood under the current rules.

But performance wise it looked okay what they did on the pitch otherwise.

I’ve not seen it, only heard it described. But wasn’t the rule change to explicitly allow this? If it’s accidental contact and your not the one who scores the goal, it’s allowed. There was a hole lot of talk preseason that if you accidentally touch it, pass it off to a teammate to score.

The rule was changed to allow for if a ball ricochets off a player's hand and into the path of someone else, especially if the arm isn't out from the body, it'll still stand. It's an extremely generous interpretation of that adjustment to allow a goal in which the player controlled the ball into his own path with his hand then laid on the cross for the goal.

'Boro's goal was questionable but it should have never come to such fine margins. We should have scored at least five goals. The performance was not too bad but as we continued to squander clear cut chances, you just knew it was going to be one of those days.

Can't really say anything about the project long term yet, but it does feel good to a) win a game, b) score four goals in the process and c) actually getting more goals from set pieces than we let in.

Let's see how we look vs Newcastle.

Oh fuck off.

We take the early lead, then we take the foot of the gas and get too passive, and we concede the equalizer.

Amenyido!!!!!!! 2-1. So I hope we can keep going in the second half and don't get too passive again.

Ofc, we didn't. 2-2 now. :bang:
