Phylum of Alexandria
About to go out and vote in VA's elections. Really hoping we can quash any chance of abortion regulation, and send fucking Youngkin the message that his 2021 win was not any type of mandate for his radical personal beliefs. kissdbyfire, Fragile Bird, Prince of the North and 7 others

And hopefully also the message that a late entry into the republican horror show - sorry, I mean primary - is not a good idea. Good luck, and go get ‘em! Altherion
An elderly Jewish man has been killed at a protest near Los Angeles: Quote Witnesses said Paul Kessler, 69, "was in a physical altercation with counter-protestor(s)," the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. ... “The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be blunt force head injury and the manner of death homicide,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. Pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian rallies were occurring at the same time at Westlake and Thousand Oaks boulevards, the sheriff’s department said. ... Another video appears to show pro-Palestinian demonstrators continuing to shout slogans and wave flags after Kessler was injured — with police cars and an ambulance yards away. It sounds like the people who killed him didn't quite mean to go that far, but they didn't much care about a bleeding man lying near the protest. It's just a shame that I'm in such a blue part of NoVA that my vote basically doesn't matter since there's no statewide offices up. We do have a kinda competitive county board vote, but I think my state delegate and senator are running unopposed. Still gonna go vote in a couple hours though of course. Ser Scot A Ellison
@A Horse Named Stranger Quote Talk to the hand or the Electoral College, or at least provide a Democrat for the US Senate. Anyway, to show that I am not merely yanking your chain (which admittedly was part of the post). Irrelevance of most US voters aside (let's be blunt, US election are decided in a handful of swing states, I have to find a way to remove Minnesota from the equation as Ty's ego is big enough). Most Americans will care more about the economy/inflation, than foreign policy, arguably they will care more about Israel than Ukraine. Since you are all into those ill suited Germany in the 1930s analgies. There's a pretty (in)famous slogan by the voters of those days. Hitler, gib uns Arbeit und Brot, sonst Wählen wir Rot. Translation: Give us work and bread, otherwise we'll vote Red (communists, not Republicans). So those proverbial bread and butter issues are not unique to the US. It doesn’t matter… until it does. And when it does it really matters. As such, while I don’t believe it requiring people to vote, I absolutely encourage everyone to go vote. The point you are making above while accurate in an abstract sense empowers people who want to keep people home to further their own power. Vote as if your life depends upon it… because at the end of the day… it might. Edited November 7 by Ser Scot A Ellison TrackerNeil

Larry of the Lawn
I felt like a pretty irrelevant voter today. First time voting in my new place, moved to Greene County NY from across the river this summer. Of the 7 or 8 offices that were voted for today, all but one were uncontested. For Sheriff, County Supervisor, Family Court Judge, etc, the county Dems didn't even field a candidate. So I went down and filled out 1/8 of the ballot. Zorral
Same here for my district in Lower Manhattan -- including the propositions. The DEMS really have to remove this state and city do-nothing party gerontocracy and replace them with some young active progressives, who aren't smug, complacent and thinking they are still living in the 1990's. I did early voting, so have no idea how things are here today. Hearing reports that the polling places in some parts in the boroughs are a lot more lively than they are around here. Zorral
Is this fucking twisted or what. Not only scary but very very creepy. Martell Spy
Trump’s Recipe for a Shockingly Raw Power Grab The former president and his allies are reportedly planning to lay siege to the rule of law. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/11/07/mag-shafer-trump-dictator-00125767 Quote You can’t say Donald Trump didn’t warn us. Trump and his think tank loyalists are collecting the ingredients and refining the recipe for an authoritarian regime should he win the 2024 presidential election. According to a page one story in The Washington Post Monday, Trump plans on the first day of his new administration to invoke the Insurrection Act so he can dispatch the military to counter any demonstrations that might resist his policies. Why might he need the Insurrection Act? Well, the piece also notes Trump intends to turbo-politicize the Department of Justice and order prosecutions of his former aides and officials who have criticized him. Perhaps he thinks the country won’t let him go buck wild on the rule of law without a stink, so he wants to be ready to sic troops on the inevitable protestors. Fingered by Trump for legal beat-downs, the Post reports, are one-time Trump stalwarts and staffers like former chief of staff John F. Kelly, former attorney general William Barr, his ex-attorney Ty Cobb, and former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Mark A. Milley. Trump has singled out other officials at the FBI and the Department of Justice for prosecution, the piece adds, as well as President Joe Biden and his family. DireWolfSpirit
I think another poster was spot on recently in pointing out Trump and all his worshippers rely on projection when they conjure up their Democrat bogey men. That is too say basically just accuse and castigate every one of your own misdeeds onto the other guys as if they were thier misdeeds instead of exactly the shit you yourself are pulling. So yeah thats exactly what im expecting out of Trumps 2nd term, a fullcourt, nonstop, weaponized Justice Dept that makes a priority of attacking and prosecuting all of Trumps enemies. Thats his great motivation. Edited November 7 by DireWolfSpirit

DireWolfSpirit
Whats shocking is how completely people buy into the projection as if it were something beyond complete fiction. The brain washing is cult level effective on millions, the slowest of train wrecks rolling in and zombies gathering on the tracks. Its America as the Walking Dead. It is pretty scary, but it's worse b/c it's not just in America but a global pro-fascist movement. All the while, millions of non-fascist individuals of different political leaningns keep dismissing it. "Oh it's just a bunch of lunatics who like authoritarians, they don't represent the majority". And they may not represent the majority, but that only matters for those playing by the rules and these people aren't. Of course in America this minority that won't play fair is aided by the ultra dumb and horribly unfair Electoral College. kissdbyfire
Oh and the whole "I am your retribution" and how Bannon said they're the "Trump Davidians", as per Jonathan Karl's new book "Tired of Winning" that should really be called "Tired of Whining". Quote Karl reports that while Trump's team denied any symbolism between the choice of venue and the disastrous, deadly 1993 clash between government agents and the Branch Davidian religious sect, it was no coincidence. "We're the Trump Davidians," Bannon told him "with a laugh," according to the excerpts. Yeah, scary af.
