I love this phrase: the founder of the Double Helix. As if it was an institution established and created by one man, and no other scientists can match his expertise on it because it is his creation - you know, crackpot level exclusive social constructionism. When you've got a target as big as America's prominent anti-intellectual / anti-science strain, and you only end up managing to make yourself look like a bigoted homophobe, there's a problem. Because this is the same strain of anti-science thought that runs throughout much of America's fundamentalist right: they use 'science' as a scare-word representing 'stuff you were taught in sixth grade,' and any climate change/evolution/gender and sexuality stuff that challenges that is 'against science' despite what the actual scientific method reveals. Is social constructivism even American? I thought most of that kind of thing came from France. You seem to have an unhealthy obsession with America given the similar ideals of the rest of the west. Why is America so special to you, hm? What separates us from the rest of the decadent socialist liberal gay-loving atheist economically-messy world? Is it because of the Putin-like right-wing militaristic/masculinist quasimonarchist conservative dickwaving that many Americans love? That's the key difference, I'd say. That's a good point.
