LMAO.  Thats a good point about nothing they found at the party house being admissable because they had no warrant....though I guess the woman whose now running them on her own could have gotten some kind of secret federal one, who knows.

I rewatched the episode and the music althought it was kind of loud i do think contributed to the weirdness of the party.  still found their exist was much too easy, and the party itself not very believable as something that might remotely ever happen in reality.

i agree those rails ray was doing were pretty huge.

So what was the point of Ani getting on the bus? Couldn't they have just followed the bus and broken into the house to get info? Which, you know, is what they did anyway? I know Ani had some GPS tracker in her shoe, plus a knife apparently, but couldn't they have like just followed her to the meet point and she just refuse to get on and then tail the bus?

Why does Ray's son have red hair? None of the potential parents have red hair, they're all brunettes. I'm no geneticist but it would seem impossible, so are we being led to believe that neither Ray or the rapist are the dad but some passing ginger that Ray's ex had an affair with? There is one sleazy looking carrot top on the show. Yeah Blake I'm looking at you!

Those bug bears aside the episode was just the usual head scratching toucan for me. Literally what the fuck is going on? We briefly wander into the plot of Eyes Wide Shut only to immediately wander out again with Woodrugh clutching the land deal plot, literally in fact.

Not impossible. My nans best friend had red hair. None of her kids do. But she has a few great grand kids with red hair I think.

Still, this was one of the best if not the best episode of the season.

And yes, Ani going undercover was kind of stupid, but I said this before, she's not a very good cop, her judgment is terrible.

The only one of the 3 that seems to  have any actual police skills is Kitsch, he's the only one that ever goes out and finds any new info.  Ani rambles around, never getting much of anything accomplished and Ray gets all his info from Vince Vaughn unless he administers a beating to get it, VV style.

I wish VV hadn't been give the lion's share of the bad dialogue, it's a shame, he might be even more charismatic that Colin F.

Yeah I'm a red head. My dad was blonde and my mom is brunette so :dunno:

We all know who the father of the boy actually is. Yes we do...

I just can't get too involved with this season. I am trying to but they just don't capture my attention. VV character is just ruining this for me. To me he isn't pulling this off at all and it detracts from everything else. I really like VV and was looking forward to him being in this but it just doesn't work for me.

Kitch is the only one who's character I actually want to know more about.

Ani going in undercover did absolutely nothing but endanger her and give us a reason to have better camera views inside the house.

Last year at this time I was looking forward to each new showing and would stay up to watch it. Now, I catch it on DVR the next day or the day after. Kind of sums up my enthusiasm for this year.

Redhead here, though there are redheads in my family, I think its a recessive gene. Dad had brown head hair, but red beard and mustache, so he remained clean shaven.

He was bitter about this. :P

As someone who frequently has to read recaps of TV shows, I like summaries and viewers' guides because I'm a much better reader than TV watcher. I have a hard time following the plot and remembering names at the same time. I usually have IMDB open while watching so I can recall names. I just have really poor facial recognition and have struggled with it my whole life while watching movies and TV shows if they aren't adaptations of things I've read before.

Same here. I'm sad to admit that I wasn't sure of anyones actual first name until this run down.  :dunce:

Red hair definitely from a recessive gene, but realistically, there should be some red hair in the families, in which case, Ray and his ex wouldnt' be so convinced that the boy isn't his...because one or both of them would have grandparents/uncles/cousins with red hair.

But, given all the dangling issues..how are they going to have time to do anything with the 'gay man in the closet' part of the story?  or some further info on Ani's abuse? And wrap up now they threw in the two orphans?  As well as the main threads of corruption, real estate, Caspere murder, diamonds, where is Vince's money, who set him up and why...

So, I'm willing to consider the red hair a nitpick.  LOL.

Now that I've seen it suggested here that James Frain's character was the birdmask guy it makes a lot of sense. He even said something to Bezzirides like "one of my officers gets shot you bet I'm gonna be there." that could have been meant ironically.

I'm a ginger and a geneticist so yes Ginger hair is recessive but as long as both your parents carry one ginger gene (instead of 2 as in ginger people) then there's a decent chance a child will be ginger. This might help for those who want to grasp the concept fully

I know - I thought the same thing.  And wasn't that glasses full of viagra we saw?

I don't really blame Ray's wife; he's such a headcase.  He's just not stable, and what he did to the son to get the name of the bully out of him was just cruel.

Was that what that was?

(And as a rhetorical question, not having the plumbing and all, isn't that dangerous?!) .

I mean the safety disclaimers seems to allow for four hours tops then you have to go to the emergency room. Cuddling has its merits.

As for Gena, I guess that is a good point, especially on the son, but I still have a soft spot for Ray.

Season one was as dumb (plotwise) as this one, had just as pretentious dialouges as this one (Death created time to grow things it could kill.... )  but in the end I just didn't give a damn. That tracking shot, the evidence locker scene , the littlest things (like episode three and five's respective endings ) , the performances, the atmosphere, and most importantly, Pizzalato's ability to make you believe that there was something going on all made it worth it. The direction indeed was an important factor, but the writing too played a huge part in the grand scheme of things. This time ? Colin Farrell's Ray Velcoro is the only thing I'm going to remember about this.(P.S the attack on the bully's father seems a lot less LOL-worthy on rewatch)
