Was the third or so foul, so should have been a free kick and a Cucurella yellow - bad refereeing on that occasion. Salah has been experiencing this for years now. He gets kicked and wrestled throughout every match and rarely even gets a free kick in his favor. The big push to let the game flow was just license to clog the skillful players. This is what all the years of diving (Kane, Rashford, Sterling, et al) brought us.
The Sunland Lord
Mane is injured and probably will miss the World Cup, same for Lukaku.

One of the many, many problems of this WC is that due to much less time between club football stopping and it starting, a lot more players will lose the tournament due to injury

More players are at risk of injury because of the compressed club schedule, and then they have no recovery break prior to the tournament.
baxus
As if we needed more arguments against Qatar hosting the WC, here's a statement from WC ambassador given to German broadcasters clarifying Qatar's issues regarding homosexuality. EDIT: Spoiler alert - it's not some enlightened take on the topic, to say the least.

We're 'letting it flow' for the benefit of players kicking the shit out of other players with no consequences
Spockydog
In news that will surprise absolutely nobody, there will no English officials anywhere near the VAR operation in Qatar.
A Horse Named Stranger
Just want to rant how dreadful the game last night was. But I think words properly fail to convert how dreadful it really was.

Speaking of that: Add Giovani Lo Celso to the list There's a good chance that whoever ends up winning the WC is the team that has fewer key players injured before or during the tournament. BigFatCoward
Spurs best chance of a trophy for the year done. A bad night for North London but I'm guessing arsenal can do without the distraction.
Wilbur
What exactly were the linesman and the referee looking at during those penalties? Derby's keeper was off his line by a good yard or more every time.
Raja
Arsenal had the chances to win that game, but they failed to take them, especially as they fell to people that were having an off night anyway ( Lokonga & Viera) Reiss Nelson looked very very good again, he set up the goal and was the most dangerous player all night. The confidence of a couple of goals has really done him good and hopefully he can take this into the latter half of the season, the break is probably coming at the wrong time for him. I feel like Lokonga has really not taken his chance in any of these games, including the EL games. Bit of a worry.

A Horse Named Stranger
Germany squad for the event I won't watch. Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (FC Bayern München), Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona), Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt) Defenders: Armel Bella Kotchap (FC Southampton), Matthias Ginter, Christian Günter (both SC Freiburg), Thilo Kehrer (West Ham United), Lukas Klostermann, David Raum (both RB Leipzig), Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck (both Borussia Dortmund) Midfielders and Attackers: Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi (both Borussia Dortmund), Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller (all of them FC Bayern), Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City), Jonas Hofmann (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Mario Götze (Eintracht Frankfurt), Kai Havertz (FC Chelsea), Niclas Füllkrug (Werder Bremen), Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund) Roughly what could be expected. Suprise omission: Gosens (Günter got his spot). Hummels had hoped for a spot, but that was a 50-50 thing for him at best imho. Surprise inclusions Bella Kotchap, Götze and Moukoko (sorta). Injuries have excluded a few players. Reus (as is tradition) will miss out on yet another world cup, Werner has been mentioned before, Lukas Nmecha picked up an injury yesterday (thus Moukoko was called up).
