A new member of the British aristocracy is entering the fray in Netflix's new drama The Gentlemen. The streamer shared the first teaser for Guy Ritchie's sequel series which shows the glitz, glamor, and dirty dealings of the "original gangsters." Amidst the action, two-time BAFTA nominee Ray Winstone was unveiled in a starring role, joining Theo James and Kaya Scodelario in the British criminal underworld. Helmed by Ritchie, the series is confirmed to arrive in March.

The Gentlemen takes place in the world of Ritchie's 2019 film starring Matthew McConaughey, though it introduces a host of new players in the cannabis business. At the center of the sequel series is Eddie Horniman (James), The Duke of Halstead who gets sucked into criminal dealings when he discovers the estate he inherited from his father was a cannabis empire. He now has to deal with a cavalcade of gangsters and other shady characters who look to game him and take a piece of that empire for themselves. The brief teaser shows Eddie's arrival on the property and embrace of both the high life and the responsibilities of running an illegal operation. That includes tense dealings with rival criminals, attending lavish parties, taking part in boxing matches, and using force when necessary to keep the culture in order.

Noah Hawley (and FX) Wants Their Alien Series to Span Several Seasons

The much anticipated Alien series in the works at FX is set to start filming this year in Thailand, and showrunner Noah Hawley, who has worked on other FX shows such as Legion and Fargo, has plans for the series to go beyond one season.

In a recent interview with Collider, Hawley shared that FX wanted his Alien prequel, which takes place on Earth at the same time as the events in Prometheus, to be a show with multiple seasons rather than a limited series stint. The network’s desire aligned with Hawley’s, who said that his idea for Alien had a three-part structure.

“I knew that [FX’s] desire was for a recurring series, not a limited series [for Alien], and I had an idea that I was excited about, that I could see the escalation of it from one year to another,” Hawley said. “That’s where we ended up not pitching them having a bible or pitching them blow-by-blow, but saying, ‘Big picture: this is the first movement, this is the second movement, and we’re ultimately going here.’”

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/new-jurassic-world-movie-in-the-works-1235792506/

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that a new Jurassic World feature was in the works, with a script written by David Keopp, who wrote 1993’s Jurassic Park as well as 1997’s Jurassic Park: The Lost World.  The story will reportedly launch a “new Jurassic era” at Universal Pictures, which suggests that neither the stars from the recent films—Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard—as well as the OG cast members—Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum—will be making any appearances.

Phew, I was worried I'd have to wait a few years for them to reboot Jurassic park!

It says "Jurassic World" in the release though so I assume they aren't touching the original Park film, just ditching the soulless but profitable Pratt ones?

Right now I'm assuming 'Jurassic World' is just their name for the Jurassic universe, so that they can just keep pumping out Dinosaur shaped turds and asking for cash.

Oscar Nominee Lily Gladstone Will Star in The Memory Police

The adaptation of Yoko Ogawa's novel is written by Charlie Kaufman.

Newly minted Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) has a new project all lined up—and it’s kind of a doozy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she is set to star in a long-gestating adaptation of Yōko Ogawa’s novel The Memory Police. Reed Morano (an Emmy winner for The Handmaid’s Tale) is directing the project, which is written by Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). The adaptation reteams Gladstone with her Killers of the Flower Moon director, Martin Scorsese, who is an executive producer on the project.

The Memory Police was originally published in 1994, and arrived in the U.S. in 2019. The English-language edition was a finalist for the National Book Award for Translated Literature and the World Fantasy Award. The novel’s synopsis says:

On an unnamed island, objects are disappearing: first hats, then ribbons, birds, roses. . . . Most of the inhabitants are oblivious to these changes, while those few able to recall the lost objects live in fear of the draconian Memory Police, who are committed to ensuring that what has disappeared remains forgotten. When a young writer discovers that her editor is in danger, she concocts a plan to hide him beneath her floorboards, and together they cling to her writing as the last way of preserving the past. Powerful and provocative, The Memory Police is a stunning novel about the trauma of loss.

Michael Shannon is to play assassinated President Garfield with Matthew Macfadyen as his killer Charles Guiteau in a new series for Netflix.

Death By Lightning comes from Bad Education screenwriter Mike Makowsky, who created the series, and directed by Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic) with Game of Thrones duo David Benioff and D.B. Weiss exec producing via their overall deal with Netflix.

It is based on the book Destiny Of The Republic by Candice Millard.  [which I've read -- it's good. ]

Not much of what is supposedly coming along interests my Watch sensibilities, but this does -- it's quite an astonishing/weird event and time in US history, and not least since it was Arthur who took Garfield's position after his death from assassination attempt (1881).

Then, in 1899, McKinley was assassinated, and Theodore Roosevelt stepped in.

Yes, our history is one of peaceful transfer of power and 'merely' lone deranged killers . . . .

TR didn't run, as he could have, and was wanted to do, for a second term, since Roosevelt thought he'd really had a first term already since McKinley died, so had already served two terms.  He regretted his decision after not too short a time!  Imagine what history of the period might have been like if not Taft, then, we had Roosevelt . . . .

First look at Squid Game season 2 teases a deadly game of cat and mouse
Player 456 is in danger... again.

Footage within a new Netflix sizzle reel provides our first look at the upcoming season, set to premiere later this year, with Gi-hun answering a mysterious call.

“You’re going to regret the choice you made,” says the voice on the other end, while the unsettling theme plays in the background. Gi-hun freezes, but does not back down.

“I will find you,” he says. “No matter what it takes.”

Evidently, the upcoming season will pick up exactly where the first left off — airport, hair dye, and all.

Swan Song also, that could be great.

Growing up McCammon was like, my second goto after King. Swan Song could be good. Could also really suck.

Me, with the special operative, WWII setting -if directed by a romantically stylized aesthetic like del Toro's, say-  as a limited series The Wolf's Hour would be the absolute shit. I'd watch the hell out of that.
