Football XXXII - Start as you mean to go on

I sometimes wonder if some of these super hyped Barca prodigies just aren't that great.

Seems like Munir is the most likely to play regularly from all the youngsters.

Someone like Sergi Roberto for instance has disappointed me every time I have seen him play, does not look special in any way.

Deulofeu was poised for a major breakthrough as well, a superb new forward etc.

But he's back to Everton again.

Bojan Krkic was plain poor and a major disappointment.

Aston Villa have signed Adama Traore on a five year deal. Now I understand that he was never going to break into the first team once MSN settled, and that there are serious question-marks about his selfishness on the ball, but how does someone who was the star of La Maisa and the next big thing just a little while ago move to Aston Villa first go?

Sherwood's done his homework on the player, at least:

He's physically a man - and he has been for some time.

About 19 years, I think, Tim.

I got escorted out after the third goal. So it was the end of the match. Tough result but it was great meeting you.

That's rough, security makes it a shitty place to take in a match. It was great indeed. I have to hide the scarf from my father, he was eyeballing it. I think I'm going to make the trip down in October but I'm not going sit with my people.

There's been quite a lot of rumbling talk among Barca bloggers etc pointing to La Masia and the young players in it being mismanaged in the name of Presidential politics in the last few years i.e. it got so important after their last generation which won everything that it became a political football. Coaches and managers changed all the time, sub standard coaches brought in because they had the right friends etc.

Interesting. Lots of PL teams strengthening this season. Might see a lot more dropped points for the top 4 than usual.

Playing time. He needs a lot of playing time to develop. Smart thing for him to choose Villa, instead of let's say Liverpool. The deal has a buyback clause, so if he's good he'll return to us. It's a pretty good deal for us - if he flops we got 10mil for B team player, if he breaks through we will have fully developed youngster relatively cheaply.

Munir was considered a prodigy just for a few months, he had a good preseason lat year, it's not like anybody knew abut him before. Sergi Roberto was never considered special talent, even when playing for B team. Coaches just like his attitude and work rate. Krkic was a bust, true. The jury is still out on Deulofeu.

Adama might flop too, that's true. He is very raw and seriously lacks situational awareness. But he has the combination of speed, strength and ball control that's extremely rare to see even among superstar senior players. If he improves the deficiencies in his game he can become much better Deulo or Krkic ever dreamt to be.

Dunga has dropped Coutinho from the squad for the upcoming friendlies. So he'll rely on Neymar (even though he's suspended for the next two qualifiers), Kaka and Oscar, plus a bunch of cynical foulers.

A pity for Philippe personally but good news for Liverpool.

How did Dunga get his job back? I though the Selecao was supposed to be going back to its roots of joga bonito.

Our federation president's (who currently does not leave the country out of fear of being arrested) goal is apparently to prove that we can sink lower still.

I like this januzaj kid

Yea he's playing well. Always wondered why he didn't get much time last season.

They really need to start calling these fouls on corner kicks. It's getting ridiculous and not calling them is just encouraging more mauling.
