Well it was on a rather obscure channel (4 music) but it was certainly popular back when it first aired. I think it was on Nickelodeon back then though so much more visible

See, I would have assumed you had your own Nickelodeon too. Like I said before, this appears to have been a blind spot for me. I’ve always thought we exported our movies and imported your television. I’ve never though our shows got much burn in Europe, but then again, The Simpsons is crazy popular in a lot of places so shows what I know. :dunno:

Did you see Maniac on Netflix?  She gets to do a lot more there than in Ex Machina which is fun to see.

Shit, you’re right. I didn’t put that together. Her and the character she played were great in that also. I just recently rewatched Ex Machina so that was fresh in my head.

Andy from Deadwood is in Devs too. I couldn’t quite place him though and had to IMDB it.

IMDB has ruined that smug feeling when you are watching a programme with your partner and neither of you can work out where you know them from, then you work it out and don't tell your partner and it drives them nuts.

I watched Shazam yesterday. It was a fun film, there's not a lot of depth to it but it's a lot more entertaining than some of the more dour DC films and did have some genuinely funny scenes. It did feel a bit unconvincing that Billy Batson was the best person in the world that Shazam could find to take on his mantle, he might be basically a good person but he's not exactly a paragon of virtue which is meant to be the criteria.

I watched birds of prey and while it wasn't amazing it was good fun. What's most promising is the run of good dc films of late suggesting they've found a formula that works which is to concentrate on the character/film and not make it a shared world building to something. Shazam, joker and birds of prey with wonder woman next.

Also watched "dark waters" which was absolutely shocking in terms of how big industry doesn't give a shit as long as the profit is high enough. Ruffalo was great as the average joe who makes a stand on principle irrespective of personal cost. Sickening how the final payout amounted to 6 months profit by which point they had already delayed the outcome by 12 years. There should have been prison sentences as there was nazi Germany level shit going on with testing on people without consent. But what are you going to do when they can fund and lobby the very establishments supposed to protect people

Halfway thru the season on Kingdom. Liking it so far, but before I read your post, I was questioning how they can have material for a 3rd season at the pace they're going.

As someone who has always enjoyed SW, Rise was very disappointing.

Well, season 2 is only 6 episodes, no filler, twists and constant turns, fast paced plot.Watch the last episode my friend, they just opened up the Show World .... i won't say more than that as i dont wanna spoil it for you, but they can definitely do another season of 6 - 8 episodes. ;)

So finished Rise of Skywalker: what i liked - the music, the big battle scenes and....er,

Spoiler

Palpa? what a waste of time this was .....but only myself to blame, it was a J.J 'Hack' Abrams movie ..so

Finished season 2 of Patriot. It left me with a strange feeling. I have to admit this whole season felt like a bit of a bummer, and even though it was definitely good and had great moments, it really wandered into depths of despair at times.

It was kinda hard to watch. Preferred season 1 a lot more. Still... massive respect to the show for being different

Just starting s2 of Kingdom after finishing s3 of Babylon Berlin

Same here... BB got really weird this season, and I loved the backdrop of the market crash... just too many weird swerves and supernatural elements for my liking...

Kingdom is fun AF... but the hats totally throw me off... there are the pilgrim hat dudes, the chef hat dudes, the funny looking penis hat with side flaps dudes... and Doona Bae....

I enjoyed season 3 a lot.

Ahhh, there’s so many things in S3 that just raised the bar on what they are capable of doing with the storyline and tropes - I have four episodes left.  Ellis is such a fun writer, and the plot/dialogue/relationships legitimately sucked my female spouse into the story, despite gore.  She apparently binged the last 4 episodes while I was asleep last night.

The Castlevania series has my vote for best-ever-anything in the video game adaptation category.

I thought the same thing with the chef hats. They gave me a chuckle.

Cho Hak Joo is a great antagonist. He has such and evil demeanor.

The Outsider finished last night, overall it was a really good show. I only remember one episode feeling like it wasn't really needed. There is a post credit scene in the finale so if you watch the show make sure you stick around for it.

Saw The Invisible man, the newest offering for it anyway. It wasn't horrible but there were spots that of course made no sense.

Finished S2 of Altered Carbon. Have to say S1 was way better in every way IMO.

Started The Marvelous Ms Maisel, got to the end of the episode and saw it was Ep, 1...Season 3! Dammit! So next

Saw Blood shot Saturday, and yeah pretty much as expected. I liked a few aspects but it was all pretty much by the book.

Finished S1-2 of Marvelous Mrs Maisel, now onto S3 ep2 so I am up to date.

Interesting things at the movies Saturday, you pick your seat on a screen ahead of time, they blocked out every two seats, so you had two in a row, then skip two, then two available, to spread people out. Also, as soon as you touched the screen to pick your seat they wiped it off with a cleaner and all the employees were wearing gloves. As I left there was someone wiping down all the door pushes. Nice touches to see that they are letting us see what they are doing to keep germ spread down.

Doing my best to catch up on some more film classics. It's been ages since I last went on a Criterion binge. I was finally able to watch The Sword of Doom (1966) by Kihachi Okamoto. It's a stylistically brilliant Samurai film and a must watch for anyone who loves films by Sam Peckinpah and Sergio Leone (and Tarantino in Kill Bill). Okamoto's adaptation of Nakazato Kaizan's popular novel (on which frustratingly little info is available in English) was clearly a huge inspiration for all these later genre directors.

The film's cinematography is beautifully black and white, with a lot of depth and a superb command of movement in its visual language. The fight choreography is amazing for a film from 1966 and incredibly violent. Stylistically, this film was clearly far ahead of its time.

The actors are also great. Nakadai anf Mifune are great as always, but this is clearly Nakadai's film. He's incredible as this insane swordsman. Both him and Mifune have parts were they appear as far removed from regular human beings as Brad Pitt's Achilles in the best scenes of Troy. The level of carnage and mayhem Nakadai spreads around him as the protagonist is just amazing.

The film is unfortunately not perfect, mainly due to one fatal flaw. It's story is quite underdeveloped. Kaizan's novel was so popular that large parts of the plot were just skipped over, because the creative team knew that their contemporary audiences would know enough of the novel to fill in the gaps themselves. That makes the earlier parts of the film unfocused and is the biggest flaw I have been able to detect.

Still, it's an amazing film and definitely worth the watch.

Finished. You were right.

Spoiler

Did I understand correctly about what Seo-Bi wrote in her journal at the end? The worms fear the fire, but thrive in heat.

Of course, I'm sure that the show will reveal that the ultimate culprit for the spread of the resurrection plant is

Spoiler

the white man :P
