Wow a free speech absolutist who screech’s about free speech when it comes to platforming views he likes(fascist shit), and then uses whatever legal and/or monetary ability they have to silence their critics(people who don’t like fascist shit).

Now that this stunning hypocrisy is shown there will be direct consequences./s

The comments in that 'X' thread are surreal in a Nazi sort of way.

I saw one tweet from a nazi  today that really stuck out—they went from being banned nearly everywhere to being repped by the richest man in the world and given cablance on a platform of hundreds of millions. It was encouraging sight for him.

Its important to recognize the opposition  not only as evil but an existential threat that won’t be defeated calm rational discourse with them and compromise.

Legit said that, after replatforming racists lol

I do seriously wonder if the complaints on the far right’s hypocrisy are even worth making.
It’s just seems no matter how many times it’s pointed out ‘centrists’ will quickly forget about or equivocate the transgression with some less failure from people on the left and people closer to the far right ideologically won’t care.

My hope is liberals stop taking the howls about free speech every time a reactionary  gets booted off social media for saying they want kill or kill x marginalized group when they’re confronted on the people who are invoking the phrase are acting in bad faith and have sinister long-term prospects for anything connected to social liberalism,

Twitter accused of helping Saudi Arabia commit human rights abuses

The social media company formerly known as Twitter has been accused in a revised civil US lawsuit of helping Saudi Arabia commit grave human rights abuses against its users, including by disclosing confidential user data at the request of Saudi authorities at a much higher rate than it has for the US, UK or Canada.

The lawsuit was brought last May against X, as Twitter is now known, by Areej al-Sadhan, the sister of a Saudi aid worker who was forcibly disappeared and then later sentenced to 20 years in jail.

Germany says it ended training of Saudi border forces after abuses reported

It centers on the events surrounding the infiltration of the California company by three Saudi agents, two of whom were posing as Twitter employees in 2014 and 2015, which ultimately led to the arrest of al-Sadhan’s brother, Abdulrahman, and the exposure of the identity of thousands of anonymous Twitter users, some of whom were later reportedly detained and tortured as part of the government’s crackdown on dissent.

Someone needs to tell Elmo that “Truth” is an absolute defense to defamation suits.

I'm sure his legal team have told him this, and equally sure that no such lawsuit will ever materialise.

The point is not to actually sue. The point is to try to scare the ADL off, and signal to the bigots that Musk has their back.

Yeah, I'd even say that the only point is to signal to the bigots; it ain't like the ADL is going to back down from something as small as Twitter.

That's a bit of rewriting history, not sure whether this makes Elon more or less deranged, than what actually transpired before our very own eyes.

Tiwtter was not running profitable (never has). Musk being the stupid manchild he is, just wanted to give his ego a boost and more or less inadvertantly placed a $44bn take over bid on his favorite idiot soap box.

Then Twitter accpeted his offer and he tried to get out of the deal (need to see the books, I was deceived etc.) only for his lawyers to tell him, nope, silly little braggarado was an actual bid, you are on the hook for those 44bn. I am not sure, but iirc that thing even went to court in Connecticut (?).

To say he deliberately bought twitter because he hates his daughter is a bit of a stretch. That purchase just not deliberate.

I mean, who has never been on a bender and accidently spend 44bn on a toy, they thought was cool, but realized it was a bad idea afterall? It's basically the equivalent to a stag night's tattoo of Kermit the Frog masturbating in front of a Miss Piggy poster. Just that in this case it's more Pepe the frog and a Trump poster. So essentially the Florida version.

True actually.

He is a far right culture warrior but sometimes his greed supersedes his idealogical tendencies.

And I should also concede his justification for his acquisition here is  anti-communist sentiment rather than transphobia. Hell he even correctly genders his daughter which I think in a couple months he won’t do(crying that trans idealogy took his ‘boy’).

I don't think it's a 'conspiracy theory' if Musk actually said it.

Did he say he hates his trans daughter? Because if he didn't, then yeah, it's a conspiracy theory.

Per the original excerpt in WSJ, her estrangement from him is the second most painful event he's experienced as a father (the first being the loss of his first child. Nevada, to SIDS), and he still makes overtures to spend time with her and be part of her life, but she rejects it because (according to him) she sees him and other capitalists in his class as evil.

It doesn't sound like he hates his daughter at all. He hates her politics and that it has led her to cutting him out of her life, and he blames that on her schooling in an exclusive progressive private school and on social media.

Well she’s at least right on him.

Great so we can all agree that 'Musk buys Twitter because he hates his trans daughter' is just an example of something insane

Eh though to be fair not that much more insane than pontification on spending 44 billion dollars because he hates the woke mind virus.
Though that is a lie on his part.

He’s a fascist-sympathizer(at the very least), but a financially savvy enough one to realize Twitter was a bad bet and not want to buy it. But so long as he’s stuck with it might as well have fun with it.

edit; clarifies.

are you promoting this as another conspiracy theory you genuinely believe?

Such an odd accusation. I don’t think I’ve made any conspiracy theory in this thread(previously arguably at the very least). If you’re making a passing reference to something else you’ve seen me post that you think as a conspiracy theory I hope you can see how drudging it up could derail the thread so let’s not focus too much on it.

To be fair to elon this is his ex-wife, and this accusation may be due to an interpersonal beef.

Its not insane to think a man would be sad about the death of his son.

Though to be fair to Justine , Elon in this instance is bringing up his dead kid to justify not bringing back Alex Jones who lied about Sandy hook after letting a whole other bunch of Far right fucks(including actual nazis) fucks who’ve done similar or worse things than Jones.

The true reason for the ban was likely financial not ideological.

Though his rabid wanto please the far right may supersede his greed sometimes to an extent. Like Just a couple months ago he literally let someone back on Twitter who posted Child-pornography which was viewed by millions.

True. At first I thought he may have held back on misgendering her because it’d cause controversy, but he’s objectively done worse than that and not suffered any permanent and/or hard consequences and he has to recognize that.

He’s not even using the pronoun ‘they’ the way some transphobes use to ‘politely’ misgender a transperson.
I’m willing to think he thinks he’s being kind by respecting her pronouns and giving a gesture to possible reconciliation.

Wait a sec. He reads and follows that fat sack of shit kim dotcom? For realz? Hahahaha, that made my day.

For those who are not familiar with him. A short history of Kim Dotcom.

Kim Dotcom was born as Kim Schmitz (aka Kimble (his hacker name)). He has quite the vita. Grab you popcorn and get ready. He was born in the mid 1970s. His first career was a black hatter (evil hacker basically). He rose to prominence by demonstrating the concept of phreaking on public tv.  Eventually that life came to an end, after his home was raided by police and he was found in possession of stolen credit cards. He flipped and cooperated with law enforcement and got off lightly (and he wsa sentenced as juvenile) with 2 years on probation. He then started to work as an IT security consultant for t-mobile. He used that money to start up his own business. Some IT consulting shizzle. He sold 80% of the shares off and the company went into default in the early 2000s. In between he received some award as young entrepreneur of the year or something and Chancellor Jabba the Hutt Helmut Kohl happily praised him and did photo shoots with him. It's not known whether they spoke galactic basic, or huttese. Anyway. Now we come to the fun bit.

In 2001 on he claimed that he wanted to save letsbuyit.com (power shopping website) and he was willing to put € 50m into that venture. For that purpose he created a risk capital holding (Kimvestor AG). AG says its stocks are publicly traded. He never put a cent into that rescue, but instead found himself the target of investigation for insider trading (ofc). That's when he started to pull a lot of publicity stunts. I give some highlights. He claimed to have hacked Citibank to donate 20m to Greenpeace. Greenpeace pointed at their books and told everyone, that didn't actually happen (ofc not). Then he claimed to be working together with the FBI in their hunt for bin Laden. He founded Organisation Young Intelligent Hacker Against Terrorism (YIHAT, so clever isn't it?). Their declared aim was to infiltrate terrorist computer networks. Let's just say it was not quite the success story. The site had zero successful hacks on terrorist networks, but was in turn hacked several times. He then fled to Thailand. He made some promises about a big reveal. The announcement were rather cryptic and sounded more like he was about to off himself. Instead his big announcement was to proclaim himself King Kim, ruler of the Kimpire (no, I am not making this up). ANyway, THai authorities arrested him andhe was extradicted to Germany. He was convicted for the insider trading stunt with the Letsbuyit.com shares. Verdict 1 year 8 months probatory sentence and € 100.000 fine.

After that he buggered off to Hong Kong to mainly post stuff on the internet about his big lifestyle. If you think he has found a perfectly honorable and legal way to make a living, you will be disappointed. Long story short. He was the guy behind MegaUpload.com Basically one of those mirror sites where your favorite pirate streaming sites host(ed) the copies of your of choice.

He then moved on to New Zealand. LEgally changed his name to Dotcom. He applied for a legal residence status there, which was then granted (surprising given his criminal record) probably because he promised to invest there bigly. He was sued for copyright violation by a firm specialized in erotic business for $ 5m. They settled out of court.

In 2014 roughly a month after he received his resident's permit his lawyers announced he was under indictment in Hong Kong for shenanigans at the Hong Kong stock exchange. NZ checked whether they would extradict him (since he conveniently forgot to mention that in his application form), but ultimately decided against it. What he also forgot to mention was a speeding conviction in New Zealand in 2009 (reckless driving or whatever they call it).

2012 there was a police raid in his New Zealand villa. The FBI had a warrant and the US wanted him extradicted. Basically his megaupload business has caused damages in excess of $ 500m. He and three others were arrested, the company's and his private assets were frozen. The raid was later found to be illegal. Then PM Key publicly apologized to Dotcom. He continued to fight his extradition to the US for next couple of years. FInally in 2021 NZ Supreme Court ruled that he can be extradicted. Not for the copyright stuff, but for fraud charges.

Other than being a giant fraud he also happily spreads those deep state conspiracies and talks about Russia being provoked to wage war on Ukraine.

Eh. A person can be politically awful and be interpersonally awesome to individuals close to them.

I don’t blame anyone from severing their ties with someone on the far-right actively trying to make the world a worse place, but it’s a mistake to presume awful people are awful in all things all the times.

Who knows if he was a horrible father to her? But yes, we just have his take on why she has cut him off. Maybe she has other, more personal reasons. Or maybe she just thinks he's an evil capitalist.
