Star Wars: Far Far Away From What You Want It To Be
WATDUDEYEET replied to SpaceChampion's topic in Entertainment
The whole hook of The Acolyte is that it's a Star Wars show about the Sith, specifically how they finally gained enough power and influence to infiltrate the Galactic Senate under the Jedi's noses, though the first season will be framed as a mystery where a group of Jedi discover the existence and survival of the Sith before presumably all dying at the end (though some of that info will leak anyway, considering Yoda was aware of Darth Bane and the Rule of Two in TCW). The show is a bit of a dark horse because it isn't made by either Dave Filoni or Jon Favreau. Instead created by Leslye Headland, who previously showrunned Russian Doll S1, which was actually pretty good (and the closest thing we have to a Groundhog Day reboot). She already confirmed there won't be any cameos or guest appearances besides one character from the High Republic bookd so I'm not expecting Yoda, Yaddle, or the guy from Robot Chicken to pop up. So "helped create Russian Doll and no cameos" should already be positives in my book. But one thing I'm really worried about is the dialogue, pretty much every line we've heard from the show sounds like lame trailer bait ("The Jedi justify their galactic dominance with peace... but that peace is a lie"). It's the kind of clunky delivery you'd hear from the Prequels and for some reason George Lucas' brand of stilted dialogue and "dead air" conversation pacing has been infecting a lot of modern shows recently, not just all the D+ Star Wars series barring Andor, but also Netflix's Avatar and Percy Jackson. I'm not expecting Andor's prestige level writing but even the OT, The Clone Wars, and ST had more natural sounding dialogue where you can sense the chemistry between the actors. -

Are you seeing something I’m not? edit, it looks like some sort of YA Star Wars fan fiction. If that’s what they are going for then they succeeded but count me out. -

This interview with Margaret Atwood was delightful. She has a novella out -- https://www.amazon.com/Cut-Thirst-Short-Margaret-Atwood-ebook/dp/B0CRJGKXBS Isn't it hilarious how everyone's conveniently forgotten that so many went apeshyte when The Handmaid's Tale was published, particularly in sf/f circles, because it was so unrealistic >sf/f, fuming not realistic!!!!!< full of it can't happen, it isn't true, men aren't like that, she's a paranoid and over the top -- and most of all, she isn't an sf/f writer and she doesn't know what sf/f is! And now, o my, just look at us. https://www.theguardian.com/books/article/2024/may/04/i-can-say-things-other-people-are-afraid-to-margaret-atwood-on-censorship-literary-feuds-and-trump

The ones that believe in the prophecy are the Targaryens and the red priests. There is a difference between Melisandre and Rhaegar knowledge about it : Rhaegar believed the prince would be a Targaryen or someone with Targ blood, Melisandre believes the prince is Stannis . However Stannis has Targ blood too , but the fact ,that Targaryens believed the prince is someone of their family , is something that the followers of the Red God don't know -

Bayern might as well take whatever Real Madrid is offering for Davies. He's been fucking rubbish for two seasons straight. He's either stagnated and been found out or he's simply not interested in playing for Bayern anymore. The latter would be an unprofessional dick move.

I don't know about you all, but this farmer's daughter feels heartbreak looking through the photos here of what were fertile, carefully tended fields, with the variety of food crops they grew, deliberately turned into ash and mud. Israel’s offensive is destroying Gaza’s ability to grow its own food By Nilo Tabrizy, Imogen Piper and Miriam Berger Northern Gaza is in ‘full-blown famine,’ World Food Program leader says https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/interactive/2024/gaza-israel-agriculture-food-fisheries/? ~~~~~~~~~~~ That is the point -- Israel, by its ruling coalitions have made that choice. Things change. Which seems to be something the ruling coalition and its supporters are increasingly incapable of recognizing, i.e. it is 2024, not 1979. So much has changed since then including those who rule Israel. Also so much evil has happened since then by the ruling coalition's own choice. And the global communications networks know it. -
Oh it’s possible. Just like I think Fulham is possible. I just think it’s unlikely. Last season City won like 17 in a row to win the title. Doubt it’ll be massively different this time. It’s not like they’re unhealthy.

Lib Dems still 8 ahead of the tories, 1 council left to declare. I was NOT expecting them to actually win that battle (or be particularly close). Greens still running at better than a 50% increase in councillors. -

Yeah Khan has almost certainly won. Hardly surprising, hard to find a worse set of candidates to run against him -
I wouldn't write Spurs off getting something against City though. They've caused City problems in the past few seasons including this one. Just like how Chelsea have been largely shit this season but somehow gave City a run for their money in all 3 games this season. Horses for courses and all that.

This seems to be completely incorrect, BBC is forecasting Khan with 43% and Hall on 33%. The close race is the West Midlands and whether the independent has taken enough votes from Labour to allow Street to hold on. -
Ha! The WaPo does a story on the WKCR, the Columbia radio station from which, for better or worse, I brought updates of the NYPD on campus, storming Hamilton Hall, earlier this week. Evidently one of the primary reason the WaPo (not the NYT!) seems to deem this worthy of its own coverage is its belief that the Columbia protests were a primary impetus for the spread of the protests to campuses all over the country. As police swarmed Columbia, its student radio station kept broadcasting More than 20,000 listeners across the world tuned in to the students’ report https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/05/04/columbia-radio-wkcr-protest-coverage/ At the time, as commented here, I found some irony in the fact that the Pulitizer had a place in the students' reporting, which was their and my coda to their coverage of the night: It was difficult and dangerous to the kids too, not to mention exhausting as they and WKCR had been on it since April 17th. Partner and I, safely here at home, listened to their coverage on an actual radio, though most, I think, did it via streaming, and then those -- like I did to here -- posted updates on various other online sites. Here's a photo of the kids who did it: https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?

Well obviously not at the current time, but there are plenty waiting for her in Volantis. A few nightfires are mentioned aside from the Brotherhood without Banners. That's not really that many, and also they are probably practicing the less violent stand learned from Beric, the mainstream one is very much into burning things they don't agree with. There's no proof R'hlorr or any other deity exists. Magic working is not evidence of that. The magic is fuelled by sacrifice. I'm sure they're good troops but if they were that good then why did Volantis lose its other territories in the first place?

Sometimes in the face of true evil, enemies must unite and become friends. ( wouldn’t go that far though)
