I'm excited for season 2. Who's with me?

I am, actually.  Though really there's very little in the way of these things excite me very much.  My excitement is provoked by things in real life, really.  So let's say I am looking forward to the second season to see if they improve or don't (such as that dive off the ship by Galadriel -- which nearly finished my watch -- I'm glad I didn't give in to that).  Often as we might recall in the past, before binge seasons of tv (which we have no longer now either) the first season of a long series was felt to be rather meh -- see, by golly, Buffy!  Golly, I sure felt that way about that series, which I came to love very much, and often, even now still, admire much of.  Particularly as they never knew from one season's start to the season if there was going to be another season.  It's hard to write that way.

Supposedly ROP is supposed to have been guaranteed several seasons.  I don't know?

BTW -- I still want to know which on my list -- and I can make it longer, much longer, without even trying, which of the American cultural values and socialism ( come on, we don't even have national health care, or mandated child care leave for mothers, much less fathers)  supposedly embedded in ROP is so objectionable: Intermittent fasting a health aid, tofu cat litter, non-alcoholic cocktails, pretending Taylor Swift is President Biden, the return of clogs and every possible ugly shoe design, side hustles, pickleball shoes?

Second btw, I just saw on the street the most hideous sneakers with five-inch soles evah!

Definitely looking forward!

I’ve enjoyed thoroughly the first season. Sure, it’s nowhere near what I expected but really, what is these days?!

Plus, maybe I’ll finally glean in the story those American activists’ political machinations that have King Aerys’ panties in a bunch.

A bit sad reading the news that the Adar actor, Joseph Mawle, left the show and hope that whoever they chose to replace him will do well.

As you were. Alternative suggestions for a title are welcome.

Please note that anyone who posts in this thread will be in my debt, BTW. Thank you for your understanding

You have my words. Great thread title.

Read Lotr books and The Silmarillion, they are even better than Asoiaf.

The tv series has nothing to do with Tolkien

Or - read the books *and* watch the show! You can do *both*!

CRAZY how options work in this world, amirite?!

Does ASoI&F have too much ‘American politics’ for you?

I prefer ASoI&F by far. Imho Tolkein should have, post-Fellowship, spliced the Frodo chapters with the non-Frodo ones.

Can you like both, though? That's the question.

Absolutely. They're two different projects with different methods of conveying and communicating a story, across two different mediums.

It's just a show and it's just a book. Take not these things overly seriously and try to find joy and good things in stuff. (Yes, it is possible to be critical of stuff and still enjoy it. For goodness sake, I adore the Fast and Furious movies, and they are transcendentally stupid at times. But gloriously so.)

It's evident when tv series is influenced by politics , the main problem of Asoiaf is the release of the next book, Asoiaf is totally fine.

However RoP as first approach to Tolkien works is very bad.

Lotr and The Silmarillion are part of English Literature, Lotr trilogy will be remembered as a masterpiece , the rest will be forgotten as mediocre product

You’ve still to elucidate exactly what these insidious ‘politics’ are.

Lotr is a single book released in three volumes, not a trilogy.

I was talking about the movies, then there is no need to tell you about that cultural movement, it's eviden, everyone knows.

Different franchise, same cultural movement, changed plot and characters and failures.

I can see a pattern in Hollywood nowadays
