So to carry over my question from the last thread, is the Chequoy lion being an Osgrey symbol the same as the Lannisters owning Casterly Rock and not changing the name? Did the Osgreys simply get the castle at some point in the future and all the names stayed the same?

I thought the chequy part referred to the green and gold squared. or cheques, like a chess board, on the lion. There was never a mythical House Chequey.

Right?

That is not known, but if it's true, the Osgrey's will have taken the sigil more than 1000 years ago.

Is there a special reason why you think their sigil comes from another house?

Saying they are chequy lands will have been in the same way that people say "those lands belong to the wolves" or "they were the lions lands" when speaking about Stark and Lannister respectively.

@Lost Melnibonean asked this in the last thread and it seems to have gone unanswered:

If Joramun blew the Horn of Winter to wake the giants and joined with the King in the North to defeat the Night's King, why does the Mance and Jon believe giving it another toot will bring down the Wall?

why does hodor only say hodor? was he born like that? itd be weird if he were just a normal kid, and one day he just started saying that. its probably crackpot, but maybe, bloodraven showed him the heart of winter, and somehow that changed him. dont know why that'd make him say hodor specifically, but maybe its like the big boss other

It is stated somewhere that it is the only word he knows, so he was probably born being able to say that one word. No idea what he's trying to say, though.

I highly doubt that Bloodraven was involved, though :)

Hold the door! Hold the door!

I agree with this. Someone who knows more about medicine/neurology might be able.to provide a detailed explanation behind such conditions, but in text we don't know why he can only say Hodor.

@Lost Melnibonean asked this in the last thread and it seems to have gone unanswered:

Because according to Tormund, they never found the horn of winter. it was just a ploy by Mance Rayder to convince the Watch and King Stannis to allow the Wildlings through the wall. Besides, I don't think the giants needed any awakening as such, I think they were just chilling up north or something.

I remember someone saying that Hodor was the name of Hodor's brother, who died or was lost or something, when Hodor was still young. Ask Old Nan, she'll tell you.

His name is Walder - maybe it is his personal infantile way of mouthing "Walder"?

:p

If I have to guess, I'd say that he suffers from Broca's Aphasia, or at least a form of it. Other names for this disorder are Expressive aphasia, or agrammatic aphasia. The cause of this disorder is developmental issues, or by damage to the anterior region of the brain. Brodmann Area 44 and 45 are located there (Broca's area).

Though usually there seem to be cases where the patient is capable of saying multiple words, just not sentences that make sense. Patients with the syndrome have a difficulty constructing sentences, they omit words,, etc. Being able to say only one word is a more severe case of aphasia. But it does fit with the description of Hodor's condition.

Usually, word comprehension is not lost, and Hodor indeed is capable of understanding the words that are being said to him. Though aphasia patients are known to misinterpret sentences. I'm not so sure how often that happens with Hodor (and whether it happens at all).

Who was older - Myriah Martell or her brother Maron?

I mean, First Daenerys was born when Daeron and Myriah already had a child. 15 (or something like that) years later Maron Martell is still unwed and have no children.

I'd say Mariah..

The MUSH tree (2.0) gives Mariah's birth year as 150AC, and Marons as 152AC. This is after the update. Before, Marons birth had been placed in 150AC, and Mariahs in 152AC. Seeing as that was changed in the update (an update which was made with the word book in mind), I'd say that Mariah is indeed supposed to be the eldest.

I've always wondered though. Daenerys was born in or between 169AC and 176AC. I guess that she would have gotten married after she turned 16, as royalty (especially the women) in Westeros seem to normally marry young. Especially since it was done to bring Dorne into the realm.

That should be around 185-192 (take the middle for these years, that should be the best guess).

But even so, I have always found (and still do find) it strange that Maron was unwed for so long. The only thing that comes to mind is that Daenerys wasn't his first marriage, but that his first wife had died without giving him a living child.

It isn't that strange really. We have another example in Oberyn of a Dornish Prince remaining unwed. Since there was no need for Maron to have children (not being the eldest child and all) he had no reason to wed, like Oberyn

After Mariahs wedding he would have been the heir to Sunspear. Daenerys was born after that wedding, and would have been married the earliest 15 years later. As heir to Sunspear, Maron would have every reason to marry in his twenties.

Ok, Myriah is eldest - but that means she was an heiress and was supposed to be Ruling Princess of Dorne! So, she renounces her claim to become a queen-consort of neighbor kingdom? She was so robbed. :tantrum:
